Rev. Aubrey D. Godette

Rev. Aubrey D. Godette is a pastor, educator, and community leader from Morehead City, North Carolina—affectionately known as the “Crystal Coast.” With deep roots in both ministry and education, Rev. Godette has dedicated his life to empowering others through faith, learning, and leadership.
His spiritual journey began in the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church, where he accepted his call to ministry while still in high school and preached his trial sermon at St. Mark A.M.E. Zion Church in the Mansfield community of Morehead City. Guided by divine purpose and a heart for service, he was ordained a Deacon in 2014 and an Elder in 2016 under the leadership of the Right Reverend W. Darin Moore.
Rev. Godette has faithfully served congregations across the North Carolina Conference, including Morning Star A.M.E. Zion Church in Ayden, NC, Little Zion A.M.E. Zion Church in Sneads Ferry, NC and currently, Bryant Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church in Cove City, NC. His ministry is marked by a passion for worship, transformative preaching, and a commitment to developing disciples who serve both God and community. He is a frequent speaker at revivals, leadership gatherings, and music events throughout the denomination.
In addition to his pastoral service, Rev. Godette is an accomplished educator and school administrator. He began his career teaching middle grades before moving into educational leadership as an Assistant Principal in Carteret County and Jones County Public Schools. Today, he serves as a Digital Teaching and Learning Consultant with the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction, where he supports educators in integrating technology to enhance student learning. His previous work as a Digital Innovator and Facilitator for PBS North Carolina (formerly UNC-TV) helped bridge innovation and instruction across the state.
Appointed by Governor Roy Cooper, Rev. Godette has proudly represented the Southeast and Northeast regions of North Carolina through four terms on the North Carolina Textbook Commission. His combined experience in education and ministry reflects his life’s mission to nurture minds, uplift spirits, and lead with integrity.
A proud graduate of Carteret County Public Schools, Rev. Godette earned his Bachelor of Arts in Middle Grades Education from North Carolina Central University, a Master of Divinity from Shaw University Divinity School, a Master of School Administration and an Education Specialist (Ed.S.) degree from East Carolina University, where his research explores the intersection of faith, social-emotional learning, and leadership development.
Above all, Rev. Godette remains committed to serving God’s people with excellence, humility, and vision—equipping both congregations and communities to grow in faith, knowledge, and purpose.
